Meet the Ultimaker
Our advanced 3D printer delivers new levels of precision. Design Automation director Tim Walton explains why that matters.
3D printing has transformed engineering. Depending on application, it can make more efficient use of materials, cut costs, reduce waste and more. But for us, the biggest benefit of 3D printing is the ability to visualise a product.
A printed model is an enabler. It ensures designer and client are on the same page. It sparks conversations that lead to improvements and refinements. During manufacture, it can even aid our welders, because some of the equipment really is fiendishly complex and it helps to be able to see the welds required in the 3D environment so they can plan their approach.
All of that becomes possible with a 3D printer. But it has to be the right printer.
That’s why we’ve invested more than £2,000 in the Ultimaker 2+, a printer that’s as adept at creating prototypes as customised tools and which, crucially for us, delivers the sort of absolute precision you can rely on.
It’s a significant investment, but one which supports our design capabilities and efficiency. And that can only benefit our clients.
